In keeping with the Book Week theme for 2019, Dreaming Of A Time Gone By challenges students to dream of what it would be like to live in Australia hundreds of years ago.
With costumes, stories and volunteers up on stage taking part in the drama, students imagine themselves in previous periods in Australia’s colourful and exciting history. Children get to take on the challenges of being:- a bushranger, a mother, a teacher, running a household with many children, a farmer, a gold miner or travelling across Australia, taking work where they can find it, in a long ago country where jobs are few and far between.
It’s easy to let your imagination run wild when you are off on a long sea voyage to a far off destination that very few people have ever been to. Two hundred years ago that is exactly what Henry’s Mum does when she learns that her son is going to live in Australia.
Everyone has heard the song ‘Waltzing Matilda’ but imagine what it would be like if you were the sheep. It’s no fun being stuffed into a tucker bag!
Dreaming of a Time Gone By comes alive with great costuming, props and a simple, effective set. There is loads of audience participation as students are involved in everything from hold ups to dress ups in the clothing from this bygone era.
Very academically relevant - the students learned a lot in a very entertaining way! All students enjoyed the show and left with big smiles on their faces.
