Book Show

Inspiring students to write their own narrative.

Rebecca Johnson, author of over 100 books including the “Juliet - Nearly a Vet” series and the “Steve Parish Story Book Collection”, is just the person to inspire your students with their narrative writing. In this well-structured workshop, Rebecca convinces students of the value of an attention grabbing opening paragraph, the importance of building tension and using descriptive language.

Rebecca believes that the actual writing is one of the last steps in the writing process and starts her workshop presentation by involving the students in role play, guiding them as they develop interesting characters and weave their characters into intriguing storylines.

A primary school teacher with over thirty years teaching experience, Rebecca is skilled in keeping large groups of students in control, on task and totally entertained. She can adapt her presentation for any combination of students from preps to year 6, inspiring both the tentative and enthusiastic young writer to extend themselves in this exciting, funny presentation.

Rebecca’s books are all science based with strong links to the Australian Curriculum and includes the ‘Juliet – Nearly a Vet’, ‘Vet Cadets’ and Steve Parish/ Pascal Press Storybook and Non-Fiction collections. She is both a prize winning author and teacher, winning the 2010 Peter Doherty Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, the 2015 Prime Minister’s Prize for Teaching Science and was Griffith University Alumni of the Year in Arts, Education and Law in 2016.
