Brilliant at being Resilient uses stories, poetry, fractured fairy tales, illusions and loads of humour to explore the value of resilience and tolerance as well as getting across the message that bullying is not acceptable.

Illusions are a great way of showing that what you see is not always what has actually happened. When one very impressive trick is explained and shown to be so simple, the question asked is ‘how you could miss that’? Of course it depends on where you are as to what you see. This leads into showing students that there is often another side to a story.

In humorous rhyme the old tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears is told in fractured fairy tale style, from Goldilocks’ point of view and then by the bears. The question is whose story is the true story? We’re going to need a detective to get to the bottom of this saga.

By combining the ideas of resilience and tolerance with perspective, the show aims to get children questioning the world around them and realizing their place and contribution, rights and responsibilities.

So get those thinking-caps on as great visuals are combined with lashing of hilarious fun to demonstrate that brilliant can come from being resilient.

Performer Hugh Munro started his career as a teenage presenter in Channel 10’s Simon Townsend’s Wonder World in the 1980s. Since then he has worked in television, film and on stage around the world. For School Performance Tours, Hugh has toured from Sydney to Perth and Darwin to Hobart.
