A workshop in Clowning, Acrobalance and other Circus Skills!
This energetic workshop has everyone engaged from beginning to end as they discover their own unique comic, clowning character. First students learn the basic slapstick techniques of falling, tripping and sliding which they get to practise during the series of improvisations that follow. While a professional will spend months even years perfecting these skills, the basic techniques are both easy enough to learn and fun to watch.
In the juggling workshop segment, using balls and scarves, Charlie shows then instructs students in the skilled needed to perform a number of different juggling patterns.
After allowing some juggling practice time it is on to body sculpture work. Using their bodies everyone gets to build partner and group pyramids of various combinations.
By focusing on rhythm, comic timing, the rule of three and the red nose, students will combine all of these newly acquired skills to devise a short clown piece using their own imaginations and their clown’s desires!
Workshop Instructor: Charlie J Truscott was a competitive gymnast at the age of five and continued competing until leaving high school. After studying Performance Studies at University she ran off and joined the circus, ‘Circus Monoxide’. Here she worked as a performer, stage manager, Outreach Programs Coordinator and a Head Circus Trainer at the Circus Monoxide Circus School. In 2014 Charlie trained at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre in California where she studied commedia, acrobatics and clowning under renowned trainer Ronlin Foreman.
Since returning to Australia Charlie has worked with numerous organisations and festivals including Sydney Children’s Festival, The Sydney Royal Easter Show, Merringong Theatre Company, KISS Arts Festival and the Sydney Festival just to name a few.
Currently, Charlie travels all over Australia performing her school shows and conducting workshops. When she isn’t performing for schools, Charlie works on her other project Tree Top Circus, a company that promotes and produces outdoor circus performances.
