Book Show

The sorcerer Prospero is brooding on an enchanted island where he has been marooned for twelve years: stuck in this place with only a monstrous slave, a moody spirit, and his teenage daughter for company. Then one day, who should be sailing by his island prison? Why, it’s all his old enemies! This is one sorcerer you do not want to cross.

A storm is brewing……

In this carnivalesque production of Shakespeare’s final masterpiece, Prospero is both ringmaster and puppeteer, using his magic arts to enchant both characters and audience alike.

Review by Jodie Liddard. Shellharbour Anglican College. Dunmore NSW. May 2019.

About the performance:- Excellent. Thank you for an outstanding theatre experience. I have been an English teacher for many years and have taken students to many productions and this was one of the best I have been to. You achieved so much in a small space and achieved maximum impact. Staging, costuming, lighting, sound and puppetry all worked so well together. Congratulations to the team.

About the Cast:- A talented group of actors who worked so well together. Strong performances by everyone. We also appreciated the Q & A afterwards, excellent responses and you were so generous with your time. Thanks for giving my students such a positive experience of Shakespeare – they loved it. (So did our bus driver who left school at year 10 and had never been to one before.)

Producer / Director - Alex Robson

After studying theatre at the University of New England, Alex co-founded a theatre company with a strong focus on youth engagement with the arts. Working as a producer, director, actor and playwright, he staged numerous productions, including three works by Shakespeare. In 2014, he devised A Short Guide to Shakespeare to celebrate the Bard’s 450th birthday, which he then took on a tour across the state. In 2016, still just as obsessed, he devised Shakespeare’s Villains: Everyone But Iago, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of his death. That same year he won an international scholarship to study Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He is delighted to be sharing his obsession with Shakespeare with you and your students.
