Trae Indigenous Culture and Dance

Curriculum Relevance:
Aboriginal Studies - Dance - LOTE - HSIE

Trae Allen introduces students to his wonderful world of first nations’ culture that he has discovered on his quest to learn all he can about his family and heritage. With his mother a proud Gomeroi woman and his father a Bunbjalung man, Trae was born in Sydney and spent his formative years growing up in both Moree and Sydney

With his most engaging, gentle nature Trae quickly has his audience listening, watching and eager to join him in the numerous audience participation segments. While introducing himself Trae begins painting his face and arms and is happy to apply the white clay markings to student's faces if they want to join in. Teachers are also invited to have their faces painted

Dance is what Trae is trained in and it is dance that is the main focus of his show. He first entrances his audience with a story of the animal in each of the dances before he, and often many of the audience dance out each action to the music. Whether he is scratching his chest and hopping as a kangaroo, stretching up to get a better view or head down feeding as an emu or just wriggling through imaginary water as the slippery eel, there are always eager volunteers willing to join him.

Trae Allen - Between 2015 and 2017 Trae trained for the 3 years as a dancer at the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts in Brisbane where he now lives. Since graduating he has performed for Premiers, Lord Mayors, and other Dignitaries and on one occasion he even danced for the President of Ireland, Michael Higgins.

He has performed at numerous venues for audience of all ages, at the Woodford Folk Festival, Universities and for many years at countless NAIDOC week events. In 2019 he travelled Australia with his father, performing in Secondary, Primary, Pre Schools and Kindergartens entertaining and educating 2 to 18 year olds in the culture of his ancestors.

Since 2023 Trae has been touring his own show into Primary Schools and Kindergartens in Brisbane through School Performance Tours.
