Exquisitely crafted children’s theatre about a young boy who overcomes his fears.

The story begins with our hero afraid of the dark. At night with his flashlight in his hand he hides under his doona and peeks out at the mysterious shadows, dark corners and the scariest place of all; his wardrobe. He is certain monsters are scratching at the wardrobe door.

Determined to stop them, the boy climbs into the wardrobe and is zapped into a fantastic world, where he is flung into outer space, propelled under the water and into freezing lands of snow and ice. Just as he prepares to battle the monsters, he discovers that when you imagine yourself in the place of others, the ‘monsters’ you fear, aren’t really monsters at all.

Monsters in My Wardrobe is a story about facing your fears and looking at things from another perspective. It is also a story of things not always being as they seem.

Mark Penzak’s approach to children’s theatre is imaginative, evocative and stunningly beautiful. His ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary is inspiring. In Monsters in My Wardrobe, something as everyday as a wardrobe becomes his set, bursting with secret doors, pop-up monsters and magical effects.
